About Camp Phoenix

Our innovative camp sessions provide an uninterrupted opportunity for healing, expression, and empowerment in a natural, restorative setting. Therapeutic day and overnight Camp Phoenix sessions take place at Candlelight Ranch, and include equine therapy, outdoor therapy (high and low ropes challenge courses), music therapy, art therapy, yoga/wellness, and team building programs.

At Camp Phoenix, there is one adult on staff for every 2 campers (1:2 ratio). Activities are structured to help children develop positive social relationships, identify feelings, problem-solve, and self-regulate. Staff are all mental health professionals and therapeutic skills are utilized so that campers' thoughts and feelings are heard and each child has the ability to decide what feels safe. For example, children have a choice to decide if they feel safe participating in the high and low ropes course. Our goal is that the lessons learned will transfer back home: overcoming fear and anxiety (of the zip lines and ropes course), engaging in positive relationships with peers and adults, increased self-worth/self-esteem, an understanding of how to feel more calm and relaxed (through learning healthy coping skills and deep, diaphragmatic breathing in our yoga/wellness classes at camp), increased problem-solving skills, healthy expression of thoughts and feelings, and pride in one's strengths and abilities.

Camp Phoenix is free of cost and families report positive behavioral and emotional changes in their children after our therapeutic camp sessions.
